Our story

Hi, I’m Elana
Brooks-Giglio.

Founder, CEO & Wig Specialist

I’m a wife, a young mother in my thirties, and a woman who believes that something beautiful can grow from the hardest parts of our stories. Sword & Crown is mine.

At a young age, severe stress, anxiety, and trauma led me to develop trichotillomania—a struggle with pulling out my own hair. Over time, that pulling resulted in permanent tension alopecia. But growing up, the hardest part wasn’t always the hair loss. It was the shame.

Elana Brooks-Giglio, founder of Sword & Crown
Where it started

For years, I hid the truth, even from people closest to me. I worried about someone noticing, asking questions, or seeing me differently. Something I was already struggling to understand became a secret I felt responsible for protecting. Wearing hair helped me face the world, but learning to feel confident underneath it took much longer.

There is never a happy reason a woman loses her hair. Whatever brings us here, there is often grief, fear, or a part of ourselves we’re trying to find again. I know how lonely that can feel.

What changed

God met me in that loneliness. He led me out of shame, helped me overcome the trichotillomania, and showed me how to embrace the unique beauty He had given me. Little by little, I learned to speak honestly about my story and see myself with more kindness. I could enjoy wearing beautiful hair without believing I needed it to deserve love, confidence, or a place in the room.

After more than twenty years of wearing wigs, I’ve learned a lot about finding, fitting, styling, and caring for alternative hair. I’ve also learned how much it matters to have someone beside you who understands.

That’s why I created Sword & Crown.

Why Sword & Crown

My vision is a salon where women with alternative hair needs can enjoy everything a beauty appointment should offer: expert care, privacy when they need it, good conversation, a little laughter, and the excitement of finding a look they love. A place where you can ask every question, try something unexpected, and feel comfortable being yourself.

I believe I was able to walk through the fire so that God could use me to help other women walking through their own. Through Sword & Crown, I hope to turn that experience into thoughtful guidance, beautiful options, and moments of joy for women who have carried enough already.

We have big dreams for the good this business can do—and plenty of room for fun along the way. Beautiful crowns. Bold style. Women cheering each other on.

Come as you are, wherever you are in your story. I’m so glad you’re here.

Jennifer has been a licensed cosmetologist for 16 years and has worked in the same salon for the past 12 years. In 2019, she was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer and went through surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, which caused her to lose all of her hair. Now, six years in remission, that experience has given her a greater understanding of what hair loss can mean to a person, and she enjoys helping others feel like themselves again.
